Yes, you heard it! Hardware being sold over Steam.
Razer Hydra Now Available For Pre-Order On Steam, With The Exclusive Portal 2 Sixense Motion Pack DLC
News & Rumors
The Razer Hydra, “the world’s first PC gaming-grade motion sensing controller”, is now being sold over Steam, in physical hardware form. Steam has generally been “software-only”, so to speak, and although there have been certain exceptions (particularly in HL2’s case, where a Gold Edition package was being offered as a bonus, sporting goodies that have since never been offered elsewhere), the Razer Hydra marks the first major exception.
You can now pre-order the Razer Hydra straight from the Steam Store, which will ship some time in June. It costs $140, with a flat shipping charge of $12 per unit. Steam only ships to the US, so if you’re from any other territory, or don’t like Steam (for whatever reason), you’ll have to pre-order from the official Razer website. It comes bundled with a copy of Portal 2, and includes the Sixense Motion Pack DLC, which we’ve previously written about. This DLC pack is completely new, featuring 10 new test chambers that can only be played using the Razer Hydra. It’s got new gameplay mechanics and features, so it’s pretty cool. No idea on whether or not it will ever be released to non-Hydra users, but we suspect modders will get the thing working regardless. You can find the Razer Hydra Steam Store page here, and the Sixense Motion Pack page here.
