Valve have just announced that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the latest installment in the long-running CS series, is set to be released on the 21st of August, in just two and a half months from now. It will only be available for release on Steam, the PlayStation Network, and XBox Live, and it will cost approximately $15 on all platforms.
In addition, Valve have stated that the game will be playable in both the Sony and Microsoft E3 booths, running an apparently all-new build that Valve have been working on for several weeks. Hopefully it’ll feature some impressive stuff – we’ll let you know what we dig up. Aside from that, the pricepoint they’ve decided on… is great. A high-profile release like Counter-Strike, costing just $15 on launch? That is exceptional, and that is the Valve that I know and love, doing what they do best.
But I’m not pleased about the relatively short release window. I think CS:GO could use a bit more time – but I suppose Valve knows best. Let’s just hope they stick to their guns and follow community feedback as well as they have already. The game is pretty damn fun as it is, so all sins are forgiven. Bring it on, Valve!
Its just been announced:

Will have news on that quite soon – but I’m mostly waiting to see what else I can dig up from E3, to release it all in one single E3 round-up.
I’m not sure where to put this, but a new Portal 2 DLC got announced at E3.

Its the old Razer Hydra thing reworked for the Playstation Move.

Valve setting a release date!
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Wow… I’m pretty surprised. But pleased. And you think it could use a bit more time? I haven’t played the beta… but listen to yourself. You think a VALVE GAME could use a bit more time? That seems like a first.
Again, I haven’t played the beta, but from what I’ve seen it looks pretty done.
I am listening to myself! I wouldn’t be saying that if it hadn’t been for the fact that CS:GO’s only been in development for 2 years. In comparison, it took 4 years to get from Counter-Strike’s beta 1.0, to the near-perfect version 1.6.
As for the game itself… well, to be fair, you have only seen. You haven’t yet played it – and you can’t judge a Counter-Strike game based off how it looks.
It will not come retail? I’m disapoint. But no problem for me.
So both DOTA 2 and CS:GO is coming out this year. Both with very little new to show off (I don’t count a graphical upgrade as that doesn’t bother me). Please Valve, show off something new at E3, like the TF2 game mode (Mann vs Machine) or else this is going to be a very disappointing E3.
Why is E3 so important? Alternatively, why would Valve show off free DLC at E3?
We don’t know if Mann vs Machine is going to be just a new mode, it could be a huge update. It could come with an upgrade to the source engine and more. We just don’t know… yet.
I really don’t think it’ll bring a new Source upgrade of any sort. It’s literally just new game mode DLC for TF2. But hey – it adds robots, so all sins are forgiven.
15 euros for one of the best online FPS shooters?
I’m in.
HELL YEAH! 😀
What about beta testers? Will they (we) get it for free?
I don’t see why we would.
Why wouldn’t we, then?
… Why would we? I have almost never gotten a game that I have beta tested for free.
Why wouldn’t we, Frango? Because beta testing, in itself, is a privilege. We deserve no compensation… for playing a game (months before everyone else, to boot). And we will receive none. It’s selfish, and quite frankly, greedy to think otherwise.
Description of the world today^.
Think of the massive losses if they did.
why should we, we got free/early access to a game, something that most gamers have to pre-order or buy the collectors edition for. And, we were the lucky few who are able to change the way the game looks and feels. Pull out a damn $15 or don’t but the game 😛
15$ (20 Euros)?! LOL, NICE!
No, that’s 12 euros. Not that bad.
But doesn’t Steam use the good ol’ 1$=1€ system? For most of the games available?
It’s up to the publisher to set the price on steam. Valve usually does a good job of setting the prices for their games across regions.
