Under the Radar 01: Maps and Mods You Might Have Missed

Source

It can be hard to keep track of things in the modding community. Unlike the multi-million dollar marketing campaigns of triple-A releases, us mappers have to rely on word-of-mouth or places like ModDB to have our creations discovered.

A result of this is that a lot of brilliant releases slip “under the radar” and fade into obscurity. To help rectify this, here is the first of what (we hope) will be a series of articles highlighting smaller maps and mods released recently which we think you should download and try out for yourself. They’re free!

5 Awesome Half-Life Tumblr Blogs

Half-Life

This year we joined Tumblr, the microblogging platform.

If you’re not already familiar with Tumblr, it has a predominant focus towards art and design and is used by thousands of creative individuals to share ideas, thoughts and pieces of artwork with the world.

It’s in no question that Tumblr has a huge Valve fan-base (or known natively on the service as a ‘fandom’). The fusion of creative individuals with the establishment  of Valve’s work has led to the generation of some amazing content, creations and projects.

We wanted to share with you a few of our favourite blogs that we have found from both our personal usage of the site over the years and also from what we have found after brining LambdaGeneration to the service earlier this year.

Introductions, Steam Pipes and Surface Tension: A Modding News Roundup

Half-Life

Hello! Welcome to the Modding and Development section, where we hope to bring you more news, reviews and discussion about the latest maps and mods than you can shake a Hammer at.

I’m MisterAddy, one of the new editors at LambdaGeneration. You may recognise me as a regular at PlanetPhillip.com and this very site, as well as being a long-time lurker on the Steam Forums. I am mostly a single-player gamer so I love everything Half-Life and Portal, and will help keep you up to date with community content to help ease the SP drought.

And I, hscsguy – co-editor of Modding and Development here at Lambda Generation – am assisting in the development of this monster of an article. Like MisterAddy, I too am a fan of single player games and mods alike with a fascination of Half Life 2 multiplayer mods on the side. I am pretty active over at the forums on Steam and avidly watch over the Source modding community to an embarrassing degree. And without further ado, I leave you with that exceedingly cliché phrase as we move on to the news you came here to read.

The Many Faces of Half-Life: Uplink

Half-Life

The original Half-Life’s hype train first started rolling when an early demo of the first few chapters of the game, known as “Half-Life: Day One”, only meant for distribution with graphics cards, was leaked to the internet.

Immediately, gamers got fired up, and eventually, the game was released in November 1998.

However, there is another demo, an official one this time, not too many people remember. Released after the official game, Half-Life: Uplink is an underrated demo featuring some great levels that didn’t make it in the final game.

5 Great Remixes of Triage at Dawn

Half-Life

Triage at Dawn (also known as ‘Suit Song’) is one of the original songs from Half-Life 2. It is heard in the retail game in the scrapyard just after you escape the Ravenholm Mines in the scene ‘Winstons been hit!’.

There are many remixes that have been made of the song, but here are five of maybe the best and most creative. There are many remixes that have been made of the song, some made of it’s most well known remix ‘Path of Borealis.’

News Roundup! #0

Greetings and welcome to LambdaGeneration! I’m Vic, and I’m going to be your news editor for the foreseeable future. I’m told news aren’t exactly the biggest thing here, but I’m not told if I should be happy or not so happy about that. Meh, who knows.

Anyways, rather than confuse you guys with 6 different articles all in the first day, I’ve decided to do this little news roundup.
