Very Early Blue Shift Trailer

Half-Life

This trailer, created as a teaser for the Dreamcast port of HL1, which would have featured Blue Shift as a small side mission, is very interesting.

Note the lack of any HD (or Medium Definition, as the Dreamcast models are called) models, the yellow HUD, the flashlight weapon, and most of the footage is taken from HL1 maps. Weird. Still, the later Blue Shift trailer is directly based off it. Check it out after the jump.

The Combine Interview – Fan Film

Half-Life

Wow. “The Combine Interview”, at the time it was made, was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. Very well written, awesome acting, excellent production values and cinematography, and with some great action near the end, it was simply amazing. Even with recent fanfilms such as “Escape from City 17” and “Beyond Black Mesa”, this is still very awesome, and the way it was written to reflect Tom Cruise’s leaked Scientology interview is pretty amazing. Video is after the jump.

Two-Thirds-Life

Half-Life

Two-Thirds-Life is an awesome online Flash short made as a parody to the original Half-Life. Looking at each chapter and parodying it, Two Thirds Life manages to be pretty hilarious. A 27-minute sequel which would parody HL2 was in the works until early 2010, when it was cancelled, and all that remains is a trailer and a demo chapter of “A Red Letter Day”.

Still, the original is very awesome, and the TTL2 previews are great as well. Perhaps the author, Raiki, can post the unfinished videos. Till then, enjoy this classic.

Opposing Force Beta Trailer

Half-Life

The original and maybe the only trailer made for Gearbox’s Half-Life: Opposing Force.

Half-Life: Opposing Force is one of the expansion packs for the original Half-Life. It was developed by Gearbox Software and was published by Sierra on November 1st, 1999. The story follows Adrian Shephard, a corporal from the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit that has been called to silence the Black Mesa Research Facility and clean up the mess caused by the Resonance Cascade.

Vae Victis – Machinima Series

Half-Life

“Vae Victis” (Latin for “Woe to the Vanquished”) is a 2009 machinima series created by Eddie Smithson and published by Machinima. Vae Victis is well written and features a fairly equal mix of action and storytelling. With great filming and effects, but a disappointing ending, Vae Victis is still definitely worth checking out. More info and the videos after the jump.

City 17 – Fanfilm

Half-Life

“City 17” is a 2005 fan film made by Funatic Films. Shot entirely on location in Cologne, Germany with a Canon XL1 DV camera, this fan film features no CG effects other than the HL2 creatures and, of course, the Citadel. Video after the jump.

This particular version of it is the 2007 remake, featuring improved effects and additional CG clips.

“City 17” tells the story of a young citizen wandering a city that’s… changed. He will soon find himself confronted by numerous strange creatures and machines.

One of the first major HL-related videos, “City 17” is the original HL fan film. With great effects, awesome filming and an interesting storyline, it’s definitely worth checking out.
