Steam Surpasses The 30 Million Account Mark, And Other Stats

News & Rumors Other

Yes, Steam now has more accounts than Australia has people.

Same with Greece, Portugal, Belgium and Sweden.

LET’S INSTIGATE AN INSURRECTION

Steam Surpasses The 30 Million Account Mark, And Other Stats

In addition to beating the 30 million user mark, in the last 12 months, Steam has had year-over-year new user growth of 178%, with approximately 1,200 games now offered on Steam.

Over six million unique users now access Steam each day.

In these last 12 months, Steam sales have increased by more than 200%. Yes, you read that right. Two hundred percent.

This puts Steam on track for a sixth straight year of realizing over 100% year-over-year growth in unit sales.

To meet these demands, the Steam infrastructure has been increased. It can now run at 400 Gps, which is enough bandwidth to ship a digitized version of the Oxford English Dictionary 92.6 times per second.

All this stats-quoting is draining my brain of life… so I’ll let the quotes do the talking:

In case you’re one of those hermits who hates Steamworks, Valve’s developer suite, then know that this 12-year period also realized continued adoption of Steamworks in retail and electronic versions of 2010’s games, most notably Sid Meier’s Civilization V, Just Cause 2, and R.U.S.E., with more to come during the holiday season.

In total, since its inception in 2008, Steamworks has been used in over 200 games.

In addition, the Steam Cloud (introduced in Spring 2008) has surpassed the 100 million files saved milestone.

Gabe sez:

Steam is on track to record the biggest year in its six year history, the year has marked major development advances to the platform with the introduction of support for Mac titles, the Steam Wallet and in-game item buying support, and more. We believe the growth in accounts, sales, and player numbers is completely tied to this work and we plan to continue to develop the platform to offer more marketing, sales, and design tools for developers and publishers of games and digital entertainment.

Sounds pretty awesome.

Here’s to… another 30 million?

Maybe.

Paraphrased/quoted from original Valve press release here. Except we got it via e-mail, you ninja Pinky, you.
