Portal 2 – “It Expands On Everything In The Original”; “PC-PS3-360 Game Content Is Identical”; And More Interviews [Updated]

News & Rumors Other

Let January be known as the month everyone decided to do Portal 2 interviews at the same exact time.

Portal 2 – “It Expands On Everything In The Original”; “PC-PS3-360 Game Content Is Identical”; And More Interviews [Updated]

So… let’s start.

Over at CVG, Chet talked about the possible implications of the hack work being done on the PS3, and whether or not that could affect Steam or their games in any way:

“We’ll be fine,” he said. “Bad for [Sony]. I mean, you know, no-one likes to see that but we have no concern, we’re not worried about it for Portal being on the PS3.”

When we asked Chet whether he thought Valve would still be able to protect the integrity of its games on PlayStation 3 he replied with confidence: “I don’t think it’s going to have any impact at all.”

CVG also talked about whether or not there is any difference between the content in Portal 2, across all platforms. Of course, PC, Mac and PS3 users will have Steamworks, but what about the game itself? Is it any different?

“If you bought the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and put them side by side you can see they’re identical games. The actual content is the same too across all platforms.”

And perhaps the most interesting thing CVG talked about was how Portal 2 expands on everything seen in the original.

It’s a much bigger world, you meet a lot more characters, explore more spaces, the puzzle are expanded and you have a lot more tools to solve them. The easiest thing that we could have done was to just make it more difficult but instead what we’ve done is expanded the complexity of the tools given. We train the player up on them so they’ll feel as smart as they did using the tools in Portal 1. You’re never going to be like ‘oh my god, I’ve got too much’.

NowGamer also talked to Valve, about how they felt their return to the PS3 had to be done “the right way”:

“It was important for us in the sense that we always want to deliver things as gamers that we want, so it’s important to us if we’re going to come to the PS3 after the Orange Box… I think we had some problems, we didn’t do the port ourselves, we had some problems updating and other things.”

“Our partners were great doing it, but it wasn’t the way we normally work so we’ve added a bunch of people onto the team that can do these types of things. For us it was important when we came back to the PS3 to come back the right way.”

  1. Yes,the 360 and PS3 versions of Portal 2 are identical, but with Portal 2 on PS3 you get so much cool stuff. Like a copy of the game for PC/Mac.
