Less Than 2 Days Left For The Insurgency 2 Kickstarter!

Once upon a time, when the Source modsphere was a lot more active than it is today, a small team of modders created Insurgency, a hyper-realistic, super-tactical, and mega-something Source mod that put you in the combat boots of either a U.S. Marine, or an Iraqi insurgency fighter, smack dab in the middle of the Second Gulf War.

Then the dev team kind of fell apart, and then post-launch support abruptly came to a complete end. And these days, Insurgency isn’t quite as lively as it used to be – but it’s still just as fun as ever. Maybe that’s what original Insurgency founder Jeremy Blum was thinking when he decided it was time to start developing Insurgency 2.

We’ve previously covered it, yes, but this time, the guys at New World Interactive, who are currently hard at work on INS2 (which is being built on the Source Engine as well) really do need your help.

Two months ago, they started up an Insurgency 2 Kickstarter in order to fund the game’s development, with a goal of $180,000. They also have 3 auxiliary “stretch goals” for things like Linux support and a full-on cooperative game component.

As of writing, they have raised $65,952, and the Kickstarter is set to end in approximately 38 hours.

There’s a multitude of pledge rewards, ranging from $15 for Insurgency 2 on Steam (for both PC and Mac) as well as incluson in the game’s credits; to $50 for instant access to the game’s pre-release beta test (taking place later this month; and since beta testing applications have closed, this is the only way to get in, now), as well as one-week early access to the game itself, before it’s released some time around March 2013.

But there’s some other rewards in between and even above that, so do take a look at the Kickstarter page itself.

In any case, I encourage you to pitch in, if you can. The game looks like it’s coming along very, very well, and it’d be a shame if it didn’t get the chance to develop into an even greater product. When it comes to Kickstarter funding, it’s always down to the last mile, so get on board with your pledge, while you still can.

So if fortune smiles upon Insurgency 2, then maybe it’ll get through successfully. But if it doesn’t work out, then don’t worry: Kickstarter projects are only funded if they hit their goal, so you won’t end up on the Internet mafia’s hitlist – trust me on that. Perhaps there would be a second Kickstarter as well, but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Well then, what are you waiting for? Head on over to their Kickstarter, and pitch in!

Here’s some recent gameplay footage from the game’s pre-alpha build, on the more casual game type, not the realism-oriented, hardcore-centric game type, which will be in the game at release for veteran Insurgency players.

In addition, this is very early gameplay, and what you see here will have changed significantly, by the time the game comes out some time around March 2013. Let’s take a look:

The original Kickstarter announcement video is also worth checking out, and features some cool-looking gameplay straight from the game:
