Valve’s two biggest holiday events of the year are very quickly coming to an end. Not long left now, so let’s do a quick recap and rundown of what’s inside of these two.
Category: TeamFortress
John Patrick Lowrie and Ellen McLain are so close to Valve and have voiced so many of their greatest characters, it’s easy to simply consider them employees. This year was particularly great for Ellen McLain, whose voice work for GLaDOS in Portal 2 brought her near-universal acclaim and praise. Sadly, John Patrick Lowrie will have to wait until 2015, when he voices Odessa Cubbage’s son in Half-Life 4.
[UPDATE 2: Looks like Leveraged and another reputable Steam Forum user both know something we don't.]
[UPDATE: Added a small paragraph on the mysterious Valve Gift Grabs, near the end of the article.]
Could Leveraged and Spitfire’s informant have been right? Has the green-light really been given for Half-Life viral marketing? After all these years, has the time finally come for a new Half-Life installment? Let’s take a look at some pretty convincing hints regarding Half-Life, that have come from Valve in the past month. I’ll give you a few of my points of view, but it’s up to you to decide what to believe. In the words of an ancient Chinese wiseman, and totally NOT just Morpheus from The Matrix: “I can only show you the door. You’re the one that has to go through it.” I swear it’s not Morpheus, though. I… don’t even like The Matrix. I mean, I do, but… yeah, you get the idea.
Alright folks, all aboard the hype train it’s about to leave the station! I’m going to attempt to get the true meaning out there, so to speak. After hearing about the now infamous Steamcast Tweet, I wanted to get a serious insight into what’s really going on, after looking at my Steam Friends’ list who would be better to ask than Brad from Steamcast otherwise known as Mimaz98. To make a long story short, it seems like the information is very possibly true. After a discussion about possible strange Half-Life references showing up on the official TF2 blog, I did a little bit of investigation myself. Brad had noticed that the image used on the official post It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Australian Christmas was originally of an Aurora Borealis effect on a starry sky. The image has since been, inexplicably, changed to The Engineer standing in front of a warm Christmas fire.
Here’s the part this no longer becomes wild speculation…
Between the two of them, John Patrick Lowrie and Ellen McLain have voiced most of Valve’s most beloved and well-known characters. Could you imagine Portal without the voice of GLaDOS? Or HL2 without the voice of the downtrodden citizens and rebels? I sure can’t. But sometimes, hearing their voices isn’t enough. We need to find out the way they tick. And what better way to do it than a live audio interview?
It’s that time of the year again, boys and girls. It’s… Halloween! Oooooo. Scary. Or Hallowe’en, if you’re a fan of inexplicably typing things differently. Depending on your genes, you’re either excited about going trick-or-treating, which typically results in acquiring decomposing, technically pre-historic candy from grumpy senior citizens (with a razor blade or two thrown in for good measure); or you’re excited about another one of TF2′s Halloween updates, where you’ll get be going trick-or-trading, which results in NEVER acquiring ANY hats from ANY grumpy senior players. Though you can always count on getting the Team Fortress 2 equivalent of the razor blade thrown in to your Halloween basket: the Crate.
To commemorate the anniversary of the infamous Mannconomy Update, Valve has released the Manniversary Update and Sale, a colossal TF2 update that, frankly makes me feel very insecure about my TF2 backpack.
Sorry for the lack of activity around here! I’ve been really busy lately, and since I’m probably the last of the mohicans around here, it’s had a nasty effect on the site. I’m working on ways to ensure this doesn’t really happen again, and you’ll be hearing about that very shortly. Let’s just say it involves putting more people into our lovely, imaginary offices.
