Valve’s two biggest holiday events of the year are very quickly coming to an end. Not long left now, so let’s do a quick recap and rundown of what’s inside of these two.

Ah, Thanksgiving. It’s that time of the year; the time everyone forgets about the financial crisis, the energy crisis, and the impending Second Cold War, as the Americans eat big birds and celebrate Black Friday, and everyone else… does absolutely nothing.
But Valve doesn’t like that. No, they want everyone else to get some of that Thanksgiving action too. No food, but instead, there’s cheap games. I think that’s a decent trade-off.
It’s been a couple of weeks since the first Portal 2 DLC pack, titled “Peer Review”, was at last released. I’m still working on my review of it, but as with the Portal 2 critique, it’s turning out to be a bit bigger than expected. However, in an interesting turn of events, it turns out that post-release support for Portal 2 is not limited to the game itself, as Geoff Keighley’s digital story “The Final Hours of Portal 2″ has also received a fairly substantial piece of “downloadable content”, in the form of a large new chapter dedicated to the development of Peer Review, titled “Unlikely Architects”.
Have you ever wondered “what if Team Fortress 2 was a 16-bit side-scrolling shoot-em-up from the 1990′s?”. Well, if you haven’t, then you probably are now. And if you are, then rest assured, as Eric Ruth, creator of the brilliant Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead, has the answer to that question.
Almost 4 years after his disappearance, Gordon Freeman has finally returned… inside a top-down vehicle shoot-em-up. But hey, it may be the first time Gordon Freeman is a playable character in a third-party, non-Half-Life game.
Gun Game! Despite the rather uninspired name, it’s a lot of fun, isn’t it? It came about in Counter-Strike, but has spread to other games – Day of Defeat, in particular. And, believe it or not, Call of Duty – which is why Black Ops featured it as an official game mode. But it’s still firmly rooted in the Counter-Strike community, and so, it should come as no surprise that Valve is taking advantage of that!
Not much time left until Round 3 of GameSpot’s “All Time Greatest Sidekick Contest” ends! Alyx is doing well against Daxter so far, but the Companion Cube is barely holding on, against some horse from Zelda. Give the Cube a vote if you can!
This is GameSpot’s third competition focusing on the greatest video game characters of all time. The first was “All Time Greatest Video Game Hero” back in 2009, and Gordon Freeman actually won that one, after steam-rolling every other hero, including Mario. The second was “All Time Greatest Video Game Villain” back in 2010, and while Dr. Breen and GLaDOS were both among the villains, they both lost, due to some pretty suspicious voting from two of their rivals. But now GameSpot is hosting a third contest – and this time, it focuses on the greatest sidekick of all time.
