We Are The Lambda Generation. LambdaGeneration is a website dedicated to the video game Half-Life. ( We're basically really passionate about crowbars, headcrabs and anyone who has goatee with a PhD in theoretical physics… )

Welcome to the New LambdaGeneration!

Hello and welcome to the new LambdaGeneration!

It’s been a while since LambdaGeneration was last on your screens, but the good news is we’re back and ready to re-serve the Valve Community with a whole line of new features and fresh content.

You maybe asking: Why did LambdaGeneration go offline for so long?

Well the answer to that lies between two factors, one being our hosting expired, which would have cost a lot of money and time to renew and restore the previous site. The other, being that the site was already in a poor state due to the departure of Vic and the general lack of content at the time. It was therefore decided to hold the site and focus all efforts on creating the new one.

You may also be wondering: How come it took so long?

The answer to that is of course, Valve Time. (Or that making a bespoke WordPress theme from scratch is pretty damn hard!)

Calling All Artists

Other

Hello, and welcome to the new ‘Creations’ section of LambdaGeneration. With this new category we hope to establish a series of weekly articles rounding up the best fanart the Valve community has to offer, and you can help by submitting your own! Remember, fanart just doesn’t mean drawings and paintings, the term art can take many shapes and forms, here are some examples of what you can submit:

  • Your GlaDOS Sculpture
  • Your cool Half-Life 2 Computer Case Mod
  • Your Gmod Screenshots (Though you should be playing JB Mod)
  • A Cosplay you did
  • An SFM Poster you made
  • Your shrine to Gabe Newell
  • Your working Wheatley Puppet
  • And much more!

Creation images can be emailed to creations[-at-]lambdageneration.com or submitted to the LambdaGeneration Tumblr http://lambdageneration.tumblr.com/submit

I must state that we cannot accept any fanart that is not safe for work, it’s not that we don’t appreciate it, it’s just that we want LambdaGeneration to be accessible to Valve fans of all ages.

Thanks for reading, and get creating!

Community Spotlight: A New Feature by LambdaGeneration – Featuring something created by the community here every week.

Other

Hello and welcome to the new LambdaGeneration! One of the main new features of the site is ‘Community Spotlight’. For an entire week, Monday-Sunday, we will be giving content creators the opportunity to have their work independently showcased across our entire website.

The purpose of this feature is to give a dedicated platform to the diverse amount of community generated content that is out there. We will be showcasing both new and old work from a wide range of mediums.

Examples of things which will be featured include:

  • Short films and movies
  • Game modifications
  • Animations
  • Maps
  • Artwork of all mediums
  • Physical creations
  • Comics
  • Other websites
  • Projects

We felt it was only fair that we started the first proper Community Spotlight after the websites launch, so we will be releasing the first Spotlight article on Monday 7th October (1 week).

We will be choosing what to feature ourselves, however if you want to share your work or informs us of someone else’s with us, you can email it in to one of the sites sections by email. Alternatively you can submit your work to our Tumblr feed where we will likely feature it even if it not chosen for the Spotlight.

Spotlight posts will be placed into the sections which relate to the subject best and so it is anticipated that the majority of Spotlight posts will be categorised within Modding & Development, Multimedia & Film, Art & Creations and some in Community & Projects. They also have their own article format so they are permanently archived together. We would like to create a visual archive of the Community Spotlight posts in the future with some sort of rating/favouriting system so that you can interact more with the work featured.

Bare in mind that there are only 52 weeks per year and to cope with the huge amount content we want to feature there is an organised queue/calendar for the spotlight, so don’t be disappointed if your work isn’t featured around the time you submitted it, it could still be upcoming!

If we want to feature your work, we will attempt to get in touch with you the week prior to when we would like to feature yours. We also have plans to do interviews with creators if they are willing to, either in text based or audio based (which would also be featured on our YouTube channel).

LambdaGeneration came to be as a result of the inspiration from the Valve and Half-Life Community and so we would like to share more of that with you in a way which can exchange inspiration back to content creators by giving them a place of promotion.

“See You When I See You…”

Other

It’s been 2 and a half years, my friends. 2 and a half years since we first put LambdaGeneration on the map and brought you a new home for all your Valve community news and media. We’ve reported on many of the past years’ most significant events, releases and creations. Though it’s more than a little disappointing that I won’t be able to discuss the… eventual announcement and eventual release of Half-Life 3 with you all, the news will make the rounds all over the web, and I think we’ll all be able to make up our minds on our own about what Valve has to offer.

This applies for all of their upcoming projects too, including the rather shocking possibility of a Left 4 Dead 3 on the horizon. In any case, for yours truly, Vic, lead editor of LambdaGen, it’s time for me to pass the torch (well, if there’s anyone to pass it to), as far as running the show here on the main page as head writerman. I wish I didn’t have to leave on a lingering note of inactivity, but some finality was the least I could offer.

Happy Holidays From LambdaGeneration!

Other

We here at LambdaGeneration would like to wish you season’s greetings, and very happy holidays! Best wishes, tidings of joy, peace on Earth… and maybe a copy of Half-Life 3.

Which reminds me – what would Christmas be without a celebratory LambdaGeneration Christmas short? Did you answer “probably just Christmas“? Then you’d probably be right. Except we won’t let it be just Christmas! So like we did last year, we have concocted a heart-warming holiday special for that express purpose. It’s animated and directed by our very own Jeff – if you’re interested in seeing some more of his work, hit up his production blog on Tumblr.

Enough with all the words! Let’s take a look, shall we?

Don’t forget to check out our retrospective look at the events of December 2011, when a single T-shirt drove us all mad.

What’s Going On?

Other

I would imagine there are a few questions going through your head at the moment. Why didn’t we post anything on the 24th? Why did we only post one article on the 25th?

Allow me to answer all your questions through a simple FAQ, which I completely made up, for a stronger effect.

We Heart You Phillip Marlowe

Half-Life

Back on June 27, Phillip Marlowe wrote an article thanking William McMahon for all his work on Podcast 17 and in the Half-Life community. He spoke of his dedication and love for the game and the people who play it , and it was an extremely thoughtful thing for Phillip to do.

Phillip runs his own website, PlanetPhillip, where he reviews mods and maps for the Half-Life and Portal games along with providing download mirrors and forums. He doesn’t plaster his sites with ads nor demand attention to himself, something that we here at Lambda Generation love to do.
