This event is going to start on Thursday, October 16th at 10am (Pacific Time). While Thursday is certainly earlier then the weekend, it will give you time to play or simply download the games in preparation for the weekend.

From tomorrow, 10 popular titles will be available to play free of charge and purchase at tremendous savings.

The 10 titles being offered are as follows:

Awesomenauts
Blade Symphony
Company of Heroes 2
Don’t Starve
Grid 2
Injustice
Killing Floor
Payday 2
Trine 2
XCOM: Enemy Unknown

All that’s required to play these titles over the weekend is a Steam Account (free).

This “Free Weekend” event, which is the largest Valve have done to date, is likely to be a promotion for demonstrating the revamped Steam Storefront, which makes it easier to find recommendations for the titles you have been eying.

I know at least from my experience, being able to sit down and try a title for free first is defiantly a good way to make sure you are spending your money wisely.

With Steam now having over 100 million active accounts worldwide and offering over 3,700 titles, Valve is certainly doing something right in the PC gaming and software world.
