Valve want to make a Half-Life movie themselves!

News & Rumors Other

It was just another night in the LG office. Other than Alex and I, not another soul was in the entire damn room. Pinky had recently crashed the LG dirigible into the building when he found out school’s startin’ over in “whereever-he-lives”. As the wind blew through the gaping hole in the wall, suddenly, Alex bust in, yelling “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD”. I then asked “What’s going on, Alex?”, only to get stampeded by him. As I slowly got up and realized just how strong he is, he then yelled-

Valve want to make a Half-Life movie themselves!

“VALVE ARE MAKING A HALF-LIFE MOVIE”, before suddenly crashing to the ground. I did the same.

When we woke up, it was dawn.

Or was that just the massive fire that had broken out when Jeff crashed his hovercraft into our building, after hearing we’ve got scoops and s**t?

Meh, no matter.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Gabe himself revealed this:

“As a WoW player, I would much rather that the WoW team made the movie, right? Than anybody else. I like Sam Raimi, I’ve been a fan ever since Evil Dead came out, but I would rather see Blizzard making the movie. We think that customers are like, ‘OK, we’re kind of sick and tired of the way you guys are slicing and dicing the experience of being a fan of Harry Potter, or Half-Life, or The Incredibles, and you need to fix it.’ And the people that fix it will be rewarded, and the people that don’t will be on the rubbish heap of history, or whatever the phrase is.

“Where we got into this direction was after Half-Life 1 had shipped. There was a whole bunch of meetings with people from Hollywood. Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so they’d bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story. And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.

“That’s when we started saying ‘Wow, the best thing we could ever do is to just not do this as a movie, or we’d have to make it ourselves.’ And I was like, ‘Make it ourselves? Well that’s impossible.’ But the Team Fortress 2 thing, the Meet The Team shorts, is us trying to explore that.”

Awesome. Valve, you are… well, awesome!

  1. They better inject this little bitch with alot of funding, or it will die like all the other crappy game-movies

  2. Please excuse my while I find a a large, blunt object; I need to make sure I’m not dreaming.

  3. Fantastic news! Oh and i do love the picture at the top of the screen. Made me lmao.

  4. This is precisely what I was hoping for. Not even kidding, I was hoping they would do it themselves. As long as it doesn’t contain the characters themselves, aside from references, it could be the first truly good film, as long as the BioShock movie sucks or comes out after it. I am hoping for it to explore either other areas of earth, or even better, The 7 Hour War.

    • I agree.

I, personally, would prefer for the film to take place in either:

      – The Portal Storms
      – The Seven Hour War
      – Sometime before Gordon reemerges in C17
      – The Uprising

      • Or all of those. And not live action (just wouldn’t feel right), but in engine (although, a customized cinematic version of it)
It could be from the start of the Portal Storms to before Gordon arises from stasis, thus ending it on a sad note.

  5. I just came because of this.
