Our resident Australian tracker and editor, Mimaz, has made a rather intriguing discovery (all credit goes to him for finding it, as he merely offered me the honor of writing about it). On the LinkedIn profile of Gerald Bauser, Project Manager of Programming for gamescom 2012 (set to take place from the 16th to the 19th of August), Mimaz found a list of publicity programs set to be on display at gamescom, that Gerald is currently overseeing.
On the list, there is a wide variety of games that are set to be released in the near future, which will be presented publically at gamescom 2012. This is the list. We’ve taken the liberty of placing the interesting bit in bold:
Activision Blizzard – Call of Duty®: Black Ops 2 PC, 360, PS3 and World of Warcraft expansion (from 3 months)
Konami – Metal Gear® Rising: Revengence (ongoing)
Electronic Arts – Medal of Honor Warfighter ™, Crysis ® 3 and Need for Speed ™ Most Wanted (3 months) PC, 360, PS3
Rockstar games – Grand Theft Auto V and Table Tennis Tournament 2 – (4 months) PC, 360, PS3
Arenanet – Guild Wars® 3 (in progress) PC, 360, PS3
Valve – Coming Soon (in progress)
Ubisoft – Assassin’s Creed 3 (for 5 months) PC; 360, PS3
Reef Entertainment – Coming Soon (2 months)
As you can see, among all the upcoming high-caliber games, lies a mention of an unannounced Valve title, noted simply as: “Coming Soon“. This clearly denotes that it is an unannounced and secretive game project (no platforms are even specified).
I can only assume that the “(in progress)” written next to it, is meant to represent the planning timeline for the game’s representation. In this case, it would seem that planning for Valve’s mysterious showing appears to still be in progress, which would indicate that the decision to reveal the unannounced project at Gamescom may still be a relatively recent development.
Of course, there’s also the mention of ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 3 there, which does sound a bit… suspicious, considering Guild Wars 2 isn’t even out yet. It also says “PC, 36o, PS3“, when Guild Wars 1 and 2 are PC-exclusive games. In addition, Gerald has… exactly zero professional connections over LinkedIn, which is also odd… so I’m not sure. It could very well be fake, at this point.
In any case, we have contacted Valve for comment, and will let you know as soon as we receive a response. Apart from that, we know nothing else at this time. With gamescom a month away, it’s gonna be a long wait until we can find out exactly what this is all about. Still, let’s all try to keep our expectations under control, for the time being – just in case this is another false alarm.
let’s hope it’s not another TROLLING from gabe newell just like the black-aperture.com site…:D
Damn crows nesting in our alarms.
for dota 2 it can release in late 2012 because more than 85% heros are done and they are releaseing them more faster
Could we agree that Valve probably be showing something new at Gamescon, being Steam or a new game. There’s nothing coming out Valve wise in 2013 so far. Something new needs to be shown soon.
It’s quite possible that Dota 2 may slip into very early 2013. I’d also have counted on CS:GO slipping further, into 2013, but Valve is pushing the August 21 release date far too much for it to happen, by this point.
I do agree with you, however – Valve will probably be announcing something big towards the end of this year, or the beginning of the next.
Well, looks like Valve realy wants the Half Life fans to die off.
No Half-Life 3 for you, nope, just another shitty sequel for a game nobody needed!
I bet its hl2 ep2 part 2 😀
It’ll Just be showing CS:GO, DotA2 and Big Picture Mode.
Possibly showing a Windows 8 Steam Client?
Win8? No, probably not – instead, probably the upcoming Linux Steam client, which was shown privately at E3 2012.
Looks kind of fake. Why would Arenanet talk about Guild Wars 3 when 2 is coming out half a month later? 3 might just be a typo, but Guild Wars 2 is only coming out on PC not 360 and PS3.
Yeah, I noticed. He’s also got 0 professional contacts, so it does look a tad hinky. Still, I’ll wait for Valve’s reply.
If you look at all the things this guy listed, you see a lot of typos..I don’t think if he was a “professional” guy, he would make that many typos..
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-07-09-gamescom-rubbishes-grand-theft-auto-5-valve-rumours Rumours have been debunked!
Thanks – added it to the article. As Magnusson once said: “just another false alarm at the secondary silo.“
I think I just soiled my pants! SOB or Episode Three? Or *wink wink* Gunman Chronicles 2?

Valve has a booth in entertainment and business area, I think it’s just for CS:GO and Steam…
CS:GO is only a week away by then, It’ll be pretty pointless being that no one covered it at E3 and everyone and there dog is getting really unhappy with Valve and there lack of anything new this year. Yes CS:GO and DOTA are cool but WE WANT A SINGLE PLAYER GAME. Something with a well crafted story and a world teaming with secrets!
Hot damn, maybe we can finally get some info on the mysterious Project SOB we’ve heard so little about 🙂
Guild Wars 3?! There isn’t and won’t be such thing in the near future. Guild Wars 2 just got it’s release date announced and it’s still in Beta. This alone makes me think this list is made up. Put up the tinfoil hats, people.
First we don’t get enough Valve games in a year, and now we’re simply drenched in them! CS:GO, Dota 2, SOB, Ricochet 2…
oh oh oh oh
getting excited here.
I’ll be at gamescom and I’m so excited.
So will i! 😀 It’ll be really exciting if this news is true!!
Maybe it will be this “SOB” Project!
Will be better if it’s HL3!!!
