A quick alphabetical search in the E3 exhibitor list will reveal that Valve is listed as an exhibitor, in Private Meeting Room 501B. That means whatever they want to show is going to be restricted – they had a private meeting room for their E3 reveal of Portal 2 as well. To be perfectly honest, it sounds like they’re revealing something new… but what that might be remains unknown.
Apart from that, there’s not much else we know. They won’t be showing off Dota 2, and they probably won’t be showing off CS:GO. In fact, we have no idea if they’ll be having any public showings at any of the display booths. Let’s hope whatever they’re going to be showing off behind closed doors is damn good. The Mini-Poll tells us a staggering 80% of our readers would take a new Half-Life release over any sequel for any existing Valve franchise, and the numbers might grow before the month is out. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind getting a SOB announcement (the readers might not either – it’s got the second-highest voting percentage: 5%), but let’s be honest – now is the time for a new Half-Life.
Now, who’s got the balls to carry a hidden camera in the meeting room? We’ll do this Aperture-style: $60 in cash, plus another $60 if you get good quality.
Cheers to Eregion for the tip.
Oh… This had BETTER be good.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m expecting a formal announcement of Half-Life 2: Episode 2: Episode 1. ^_^
I don’t know much about how these events work, but “private room” seems like a reason to believe that it wont be the next HL game or a new IP. If they were showing off a new game wouldn’t they want to make it public and easily accessible to all the attendees?
Nobody wants booth lines.
Seems very unlikely (not happening at all).
It wouldn’t explain the mentioning in the source code either.
Oh okay, thanks for adding my reply to the top instead of where I pressed reply 😐
I’ll do my best NOT to hope about any HL-related news.
I’m sure I’ll fail, though.
Im the only one that thinks that SOB could be very well “Second Orange Box”?
Why would “Second Orange Box” be written on an in-game spaceship?
Promotional Material? It could be only on the concept art,a reference. Nah, you made your point.
Haha, I laughed hard at what you said at the end Vic!
Actually everything felt awesome and cheering in this article…
this entire day and my whole life suddenly seems cheerful now… colors… seems so bright now.
I still have this deep doubting feeling that it might not be what I expect like every other Valve fan will.
It’s been feeling like Valve wants to branch out to other different creative ideas they had for games maybe for years now, and they really have put in their primary title on pause.
But damn it, I can’t fight this feeling off of… hope… and excitement.
Thanks for the news!
I’ll bet its something with/about Steam. Maybe stats or some new features they have planned. Something they don’t want to make a big fan fare about to the gamers, and keep on the business side of things.
Hahaha, oh man.
Prepare for SOB or some other new stuff.
Good luck wishing new HL.
I’m not trolling, I’m sincerely believe that it won’t be HL.
No. Way.
If it’s that private then it’s not a game… maybe it’s about game developing and the source engine or other kinds of projects.
Portal 2 was showed in a private room at E3 2010, same for L4D2 at E3 2009.
Well, if it’s not Half-Life…
Prepare for unforeseen consequences Valve!
There is nothing unforeseen what they will get then.
