At last, Portal 2’s second DLC release, the Perpetual Testing Initiative, has been released to all owners of Portal 2 for free! Featuring a brand new easy-to-use “Puzzle Maker” toolkit for creating your own test chambers, alongside integration with the Steam Workshop, allowing near-instant uploading, rating, sharing, downloading and playing custom levels; and a new side-story featuring Cave Johnson – you absolutely cannot miss this thing. If all goes well, Portal 2 should be downloading and installing the new DLC update as you’re reading this article. In addition, Portal 2’s Steam Workshop section is now live.
If your Portal 2 has not updated yet, and is showing no signs of doing so, consider simply starting up the game/restarting Steam/verifying your game cache; or in some cases, uninstalling Portal 2 (but don’t worry, the Steam Cloud will restore everything). Keep in mind that it is a sizeable update, with an average size of 815 MB.
While you wait for the download to finish, check out the redesigned official Portal 2 website, and consider reading Cave Johnson’s rant about building more test chambers, as well as Valve’s simple guide on setting up your own test chamber in the new Puzzle Maker. You might also be interested in reading my impressions of the Perpetual Testing Initiative itself, which you’ll find in our review. Once all that’s done… get testing!
Great showing all told, but that third person model is as ugly as sin.
Uninstalling and reinstalling Portal 2 somehow did it for me.
Currently building my first map!
cheese
I must say, it’s quite fun and easy to use.
I’m in the works of planning a small map pack with the aid of PerpTestIn.
If you want props (like chairs and stuff), triggers and more then you’d have to use the “advanced” editor (Hammer). I can’t wait to get home and work my ass off.

what what what!?!?!?
Easy there – it’s nothing more than an in-game comedy soundbite from Cave, used in a Workshop test chamber. The whole PeTI side-story is likely completely non-canon, given the staggering number of glaring contradictions found therein.
ah okay. the whole mutliverse thing. well perhaps when i get home and actually get a chance to play.
Yeah, precisely. There’s loads of alternate Cave Johnsons in the side-story. This line ain’t from “Cave Prime”, sadly.
You can also try changing a download region (Steam content server) if the one which is chosen for you does not have the DLC yet, my suggestion is UK-London.
The closest regions might work, but I’ve had decent results with even really far download regions. London might be the best though.
I’m hearing some people are finding HL stuff in the files, does anyone know if this is true or fake?(haven’t had time to fully poke around yet)
I don’t think there’s anything important HL-related in there.
