Breaking News: Portal 2 Delayed From February 9th to April 20th in North America and Australia, and April 22nd in Europe

According to Valve, this is no reason for anger:

This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve’s proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.”

Yes, Portal 2 has been delayed, from February 9th to April 20th in North America and Australia, and April 22nd in Europe.

The original press release said “the week of April 18th, 2011”, but according to Valve, certain retailers may release it on different days.

There’s not much else to say here, as the press release did not contain any other info. Apparently we’ll hear more closer to release.

And yes, it really sucks.

  1. “Alright folks, keep it civil. Listen Slippery, you made your case, I made mine, and I think I made it pretty clear. No one is rallying against you, I’ll make sure of that. I’ll reconsider removing the tag, and as you said, maybe we can forget this thing happened.”

    1. My point I’m trying to make right now is that all I was trying to do was give some advice, which you could have nicely denied by simply saying “At the time I wrote it, it was new news, and it takes a while to get things published”. Instead you were rude and sarcastic about it.

    2. I wasn’t comparing LG to other sites, I was simply using it to back up my argument that it wasn’t new news. That was all. Your the one who accused me of using that to compare LG to a site like Kotaku or Gamespot. I know this is a fan blog with a fairly small staff.

    3. Yes, this is a crusade against me. It may not of been your intent, but when someone like you, the lead writer of a news site, is rude and sarcastic to just some random comment poster, do you really think many people won’t take your side and gang up on me? You may not have meant it, but its what it’s become.

So whatever. Act like your high and mighty and aren’t to fault for any of this. I was just trying to give advice, which you could have replied to nicely or even ignored. You choose not to be nice or to ignore it. Now look what happened.

    • Let me add that at this point I don’t care if you change it.

    • I believe I reserve the right to be sarcastic after I work my ass off to get several articles written in one day, and someone tells me “this came out several days ago, it is not breaking news”. A little sarcasm won’t kill anyone. I don’t think I was rude, though. Yes, you were comparing it to other gaming sites. If you were using it to back up your argument, then you were comparing it. As for the “crusade”? Please. Now you’re just acting like the victim. No one hurt you, no one insulted you, in fact, you called me an “ass” and an “asshole”. Shouldn’t I be the one who’s upset?

      • Emil was the first to actually insult anyone(being me)

Look at this point, I don’t care if you change it. I never did. All I did was provide advice, which you could have ignored or considered.

Also, sarcasm is rude, at least the way you used.

I apologize for callikng you an ass.

        • I did consider your advice, and as I said, I am thinking of removing the tag. While it wasn’t the traditional type of advice, I suppose any kind of feedback is good feedback. I apologize for any misinterpretations my sarcasm may have caused, and let’s forget about this whole debacle. By the way… you’re actually nopeadope too?

  2. “Slippery, stop acting like the victim. This is just an insignificant argument. No one’s taking you to the gallows, especially not me. No one is seeing you as the douche here, and if anyone in fact is, I’ll make sure they don’t. Pinky and Emil have already made everything clearer than I could have, and I’d like to thank them for having my back. Hell, I might remove the tag after all.”

I’m just trying to get it straightened out that what you thought I said and what was actually said were two completely different things. As soon as I explain that, you turn it back around again.

  3. How cruel of you. We’re big fans of you guy’s site, but we couldn’t know that when you said ‘Let’s not forget that when I wrote it, it had just been announced’ you meant that it had just been announced to you. There’s a huge difference and no need to get all upset on us about it. We really like the quality of your site and articles and please keep it up.

    • Too bad I never said that. Reread it: “Time zones. At the time this was announced, I was asleep”. If anything, you only strengthen my case. If you can’t read my comments, then don’t bother getting involved in an argument you don’t seem to understand, particularly if you don’t seem to understand the concept of time zones.

      • Um, try rereading your first reply to me.

Jesus, I figured you’d be nice, or at least not such an ass.

        • Well it doesn’t matter now. He edited his post so that it cannot be misunderstood now.

          • Edited it? Now that just slaps me on the knee. Friend, I have better things to do than edit my comments. And I don’t see where exactly I’m being “an ass”. However, now that I think of it, even the part you quoted works on its own, as at the time I wrote it, it had just been announced, as it had been only a few hours. Is anything good enough for the two of you?

            • I was pointing something out and you acted like I was asking you to be better at getting stuff out, then went on a tangent that essentially turned everyone on me.

              Thanks.

              • No, I told you that 1: if a few hours have passed since the announcement, and I then write the article, it’s breaking news. 2: if less than one day has passed since it was announced, and the article is published, it’s still breaking news, especially since many have STILL not heard of this yet. These were my main points, but since you drifted off, I drifted off as well.

                • OH MY FUCKING GOD

Can we just drop all this, because you clearly can’t listen.

I thought you were nice, funny, and awesome before but now its clear your just an overreacting asshole.

                • I never drifted off, btw. You turned around and instantly became a sarcastic ass. My first post you replied to, you were very sarcastic and rude, and then I posted a reply, to which you were not only sarcastic and rude, but accused me of comparing LG to major gaming sites

“Excuse me, your majesty, but as it turns out, LG is NOT ‘every major gaming site’.”

Now tell me this is my fault. And don’t say “I never said it was your fault”, I can tell when an what is being implied.

                  • Wow. Calling me an “asshole”? All because I defended myself and my reasoning, along with others. And yes, you did compare LG to other gaming sites: “You posted this late last night, and every major gaming site already had news stories on it”. I have already made my argument clear, and now you’re just tossing insults at me. You’re the only one who’s acting upset here, as you are overreacting over a mere argument. In fact, it’s quite funny, as you are literally now throwing swearwords left and right. I’d suggest you relax.

          • Vic didn’t edit anything, and I know that very well, since I have followed this discussion since the start.

      • That wasn’t the post I was referring to.

  4. Actually I saw this on halflife2.net 2 days ago.

    • That’s wonderful, because: 1. LG =/= HL2.net, and 2. Google “time zones”. At the time this was announced, I was asleep, and I typically only fall asleep at late times, usually so I can write articles that, sadly, do not come out on time, and are therefore bashed by people who seem to know of some holy law dictating that if one day has passed, information somehow becomes old.

      • Its not that its old, it just isn’t new. Im complaing about the BREAKING NEWS part, nothing more nothing less. And I wasn’t even rude, I was just saying, check how long it’s been out before saying BREAKING NEWS, because to most that translates to: HOLY CRAP YOU PROBABLY HAVEN’T HEARD THIS YET

        • To most. Not all. I checked how long it had been out, and at the time it had only been a few hours. However, now that I think of it, even the part you quoted works on its own, as at the time I wrote the article, it had just been announced, as it had been only a few hours since the announcement. Is anything good enough for the two of you?

          • WTF?

I just said that it wasn’t breaking news, now your acting like somehow I and alex meant that we wanted you to rush out posts and that me and him were and are being dicks. All I was trying to do was point out that having Breaking News in the title doesn’t work if its been that long since the news went public. Excuse me for not knowing the inner workings of your blog posts.

            • Yes, it works. It had been a few hours when I wrote it, and it was less than one day at the time this was released. And I don’t think I ever said that you two want me to “rush out posts”.

    • All of us at LG have busy schedules and thus, cannot post articles and get images within seconds of hearing news.

      • 30 hours =/= seconds. I understand you have tight schedules, I was simply pointing out that this is not breaking news. Vic decided to freak out on me.

        • You were comparing us to “major gaming sites”. Major gaming sites can get articles within seconds. I don’t see why you’re so upset over a tiny little tag anyway. No one’s freaking out here other than you.

          • I wasn’t comparing, I was saying that the news is already widespread enough and old enough so that it isn’t breaking news. You severely misunderstood, and now here we are.

            • No, it isn’t. At the time this was released, let alone the time I wrote it, less than one day had passed. People still have not heard about it. I didn’t misunderstand you, but since you deviated from your original comment, so did I.

              • Oh sorry, it was Emil who turned it into a shit fest

                “Haha
                Oh wow.
So you demand instant articles, McFly? No, if you were a part of this website, you’d understand what work they need to do before publishing their articles. And mind you, everyone on the website aren’t capable of working 24/7.
One article requires a first-hand draft, then a second draft, polishing, censoring, editing before it can be finished and published. This can easily take some hours.

Now I suggest you turn off your computer, and take a long walk.
                Good night.”

And then you agreed. I did not deviate from my original post. All I was saying is if it is 30+ hours from when it went public, it isn’t considered breaking news.

                Definition from about.com:

“Breaking news refers to events that are currently developing, or “breaking.” Breaking news usually refers to events that are unexpected, such as a plane crash or building fire. Breaking news can also refer to news that occurs late in the day, close to a news outlet’s usual deadline.”

That was all I was saying, and Emil turned my words into what a quoted from him.

Now I’ll just take it back. Go around calling day old news “breaking” all you want.

My only suggestion to you now is to quit overreacting when someone was being nice.

Can you honestly say that my original post on this article was meant in anyway to upset you or to demand anything. It was advice. Take it or leave, just don’t be an ass.

                • Overreacting? The only one who’s overreacting is you, my friend. You seem to be seeing this little argument as some sort of crusade against you. Seriously, relax. When I wrote the tag, only a few hours had passed. And I don’t care about your dictionary definitions, I’m a writer, and writers have their own definitions of news terms. You seem to be constantly ignoring these two tiny facts in favor of calling me and others “ass” and “asshole”, and repeatedly saying that I was “overreacting”. Not very mature behavior. You seem to believe that I don’t have the right to defend myself and my writing. This is false.

  5. How is this breaking news? No offense but this is a few days old, not “breaking news”.

    • Few days old? It came out yesterday, amigo. Plenty of people still don’t know about it, so I’ll call it “breaking news”, thank you very much. Let’s not forget that when I wrote it, it had just been announced (well, from my perspective, seeing as I had just woken up and it had been announced while I was asleep) so it was very much “breaking news”.

      • Either way, breaking news it isn’t. You posted this late last night, and every major gaming site already had news stories on it on the 18th(day announced) or 19th. I’m sure all the people who regularly visit this site (huge Valve fans) already knew. I’m not saying don’t post a story on it, it just bugs me that the title say BREAKING NEWS.

        • Yes, it is. It was posted late on the 19th, and it was announced late on the 18th. Not only was I asleep, in my time zone, at the time the delay was announced, but as soon as I woke up, I wrote the article. Excuse me, your majesty, but as it turns out, LG is NOT “every major gaming site”. Since you don’t appear to know, every other staff member is busy with work and other projects, and my articles can go unpublished for days. I don’t care if it bugs you or not, it was breaking news for some people, it was breaking news at the time I wrote it, and it’s not going away.

          • It was posted 4 o’clock my time one the 18th, but your post was posted November 20th my time. Thats at least at least a 30 hours time between this post and the original Kotaku post. I doubt a nap or even a nights sleep take 30 hours, regardless of where your from. You don’t see a news station saying “BREAKING NEWS 30 hours ago a murderer escaped from prison, unless of course the news was just made public. This has been public and posted everywhere. Don’t blame your lateness on sleep or time zones.

If your going to be an asshole to your readers, don’t expect much more back.

            • Haha
              Oh wow.
So you demand instant articles, McFly? No, if you were a part of this website, you’d understand what work they need to do before publishing their articles. And mind you, everyone on the website aren’t capable of working 24/7.

Now I suggest you turn off your computer, and take a long walk.
              Good night.

              • I don’t demand anything. Wow, because one of the sites creators acted like I’m a horrible person, everyone thinks that.

I was trying to nicely provide a bit of contructive criticism that if news is 2 days old, you shouldn’t call it breaking news. That was all. Vic turned this into the shit fest it currently is.

              • Everyone is acting like I asked them to start doing twnety different things, but I just said that this wasn’t new news, which is what breaking news is. It was just a friendly suggesting, but Vic was acting like I asked the world of him, started shoveling words into my mouth, and now, because he’s lead writer and the most recognizable LG name, everyone thought that I was actually the douche in the situation. If any one needs to take a long walk, it’s Vic. If you’d just read my original comment on this article, you’d see that I was offering up a small suggestion, not asking you to come out with news seconds within it’s announcement.

                • If we could, we’d post articles instantly. Vic writes up posts right after hearing of them, and unfortunately, they sit as drafts for a while until someone is available to do the polish and publishing. All of us on the site either have school or jobs, and for us in school, that takes up a sizable chunk of our day, and homework and sleep take up the rest.

You haven’t seen much from me on the site lately because of this, but I’ve been helping out with smaller tasks.

If our paying job was to bring you the latest and greatest in the Valve community, then we would be much more punctual. Right now, it’s a blog that happens to be another thing we contribute to while we’re in front of a computer.

                  • Slippery, stop acting like the victim. Hell, I might remove the tag after all.

                • Slippery just stfu. You’re the one who started this bullshit argument about breaking news.No one gives a god damned fuck if it’s breaking news or not.The world ain’t gonna end becouse of that jeez.

                  • Alright folks, keep it civil. Listen Slippery, you made your case, I made mine, and I think I made it pretty clear. No one is rallying against you, I’ll make sure of that. I’ll reconsider removing the tag, and as you said, maybe we can forget this thing happened.

        • If it bugs you so much, then don’t read it.
First of all, it is still breaking news even if it didn’t get published in the instant the news has been delivered.
For me, it was quite shocking, and therefore should be considered “breaking news” without you bumping everyone.
Quote: “Google “time zones”. TL;DR: Don’t complain about an article being late on a site that can’t get everything done in an instant like other big gaming sites.
