And the second question of the first episode of the second season comes from “DrunkBanana”, who asks Pachter:
With the facial technology used in L.A. Noire and storytelling in games like BioShock, is Valve falling behind on the elements they used to be the industry’s best in?
Ignoring that L.A. Noire’s facial animation tech is extremely restricted, and that there was nothing special about BioShock’s storytelling, what did Pachter have to say?
He talked about how he thinks that Valve doesn’t make enough games for them to be criticized on not taking advantage of cutting-edge tech, and that if Valve sees a new kind of tech that they like, that they will take it and improve upon it and give it to us. Here’s one of the highlight quotes from the video:
Give Valve a ton of credit, because they are among the 3 or 4 or 5 best developers ever, they are going to stay among the 3 or 4 or 5 best developers ever, and everything they make is great. […] Others innovate, Valve takes it to the next level.
We definitely agree with him, and we have high hopes that eventually, perhaps sooner than later, Valve is going to blow our minds all over again, just like E3 2003.
In any case, check out the video.
