L4D2: Friday the 13th Update – Featuring Gib Fest, Cold Stream, and More

News & Rumors Other

Been a while since we ran a L4D story. Well, better late than never, right?

L4D2: Friday the 13th Update – Featuring Gib Fest, Cold Stream, and More

The 13th of January just happened to be Friday the 13th. And it was also the same day for the bi-weekly L4D2 update. Let’s check out the Friday the 13th update’s blog post. New mutation, but it’s technically a re-run:

Gib Fest
Blast the infected to shreds with M60s.

Swords can slice up some fun. Chainsaws can tear apart the infected. But you need to get close for both and well… chainsaws are really loud! Time to go with the ultimate gun, you and three friends armed with M60s and unlimited ammo. This is going to get messy.

Didn’t get to buy Serious Sam 3 in the Holiday Sale? Don’t worry, Gib Fest should prove itself a worthy replacement. Still, that’s not all they’ve got in the update. Crash Course and Cold Stream (two of the campaigns that will be released in the upcoming Cold Stream DLC pack), have also received some fairly large updates. They’re still in beta, but they’re pretty good:

Cold Stream
As we recently posted on our blog, we are busy working on the full Cold Stream DLC which will include Cold Stream, Blood Harvest, Crash Course, Dead Air, Death Toll, and No Mercy. We will be updating Campaigns on Steam with bug fixes as we get ready to ship the DLC.

Check the release notes as the list of fixes is extensive. The Xbox 360 will get Campaigns with the bug fixes at a future date.

Sounds good. Remember that the week before that, Valve gave us a big update on the Cold Stream DLC in another blog post:

With the team back from the holidays, we have been hard at work on the Cold Stream DLC and wanted to let you know what is going on. Right now the focus is on making sure the game play works well on the Xbox 360. We still have a few problems spots that we are working on before we begin heavy internal testing and then release to certification. Sorry, we don’t have a release date yet.

Before the holidays, we made a push on outstanding bugs and issues in all the campaigns in the DLC. One of the ongoing bugs has been an item density issue caused by the differences between how Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 handle density. We looked into a few different ways to handle it. To fix it right, we needed to fix it in each campaign map by map. While we were updating each map, we fixed other bugs and exploits in those maps. Starting next week we will be releasing these updates a campaign or two at a time to get more feedback from the community. Your playing, posting, and general feedback has made this whole process a much better game for everyone – thanks!

Next week we will start by releasing an updated version of Crash Course and Cold Stream. The other campaigns will follow. While the release notes are lengthy, we can give you some idea of the extent of the updates. […] We will have detailed release notes for each update as they are released.

We have one last big bit of Cold Stream news. Congratulations are in order for Matthew Lourdelet. The community mapper who created Cold Stream is no longer a community mapper! He is a full blown professional mapper and is part of the team working on Dishonored for Arkane. Congrats Matthew and this gives us yet another reason to look forward to Dishonored!

They took our level designers! And our Viktor Antonov. Me no rikey. Still, I’m looking forward to the Cold Stream DLC pack. Sure, I’m not very interested in the idea of a “gameplay-only” campaign, and Valve’s changes in “Cold Stream 2” — as some have nicknamed the second significant version of the campaign — might have been a bit awkward, I’m still looking forward to playing it, as well as all the L4D1 campaigns.

But you know what I’m REALLY looking forward to? Left 4 Dead 1 DLC. Yeaaaaaaaah! 4-map Florida Keys campaign! Let’s go! Yeaaaaaaaaah… please, Valve? Pretty please, with sugar on top? You know, I saved it because I knew it wouldn’t take long. Well… it did take long, but you get the idea.
