L4D: July 15th Update, And A Massive Portal 2 Easter Egg Inside Suicide Blitz 2

News & Rumors Other

And another update in the sack, featuring a new Mutation and some gameplay tweaks!

L4D: July 15th Update, And A Massive Portal 2 Easter Egg Inside Suicide Blitz 2

Bleed Out Versus
Now you have a good excuse for rushing through Versus.

There is no permanent Survivor health, it is all temporary and it is ticking down. Even if you don’t normally play Versus, this is a great mutation to try. The action is frantic and fast as team wipes are always just a few seconds away.

This should really even the odds between the Survivors and the Infected! Sure, the Survivors are going to run like hell, but all they have is temporary health.

Movie Fan
Have you watched any live action Left 4 Dead movies on YouTube 60% of you have, 30% of you have not and 9% are just confused. What this really means is 39% of you need to visit YouTube and search for some Left 4 Dead related movies. The community is making some really awesome stuff.

Not really as awesome as the Half-Life live action movies, eh Valve? Boy, those guys sure could use a new game of their own! I’m joking, of course. The L4D community is really great at doing fanfilms as well – just hit up YouTube and you’ll see!

Spawn Distances
We made a change to shrink the finale spawn distances from 600 units to 300 units. In this week’s poll, let us know what you think. We have tested this change heavily but if you find any oddity with a Community Campaign or our own campaigns, please let us know.

Sounds good! I know I’ll be checking it out with a pal or two.

And that’s that! Blog post is here. Not all for our post, however. Inside the recently Valve featured community campaign Suicide Blitz 2, a sequel to the original Suicide Blitz, for the original L4D, is one of the greatest easter eggs we’ve ever seen. Period.

This is the original video, though a number of other uploads explaining the whole thing in-depth have popped up. The gist of it is – in the first map of Suicide Blitz 2 is a gnome, lying around one of the apartments in the building where you first start. Carry this thing all the way to the beginning of the final map, map 5, and you’ll be able to access a playable Portal 2 easter egg that seems to be bigger than the actual main level itself.

The whole sequence is incredibly authentic, great fun, and also includes a small Half-Life easter egg! Yes, an easter egg within an easter egg. Meta-easter eggs. There’s also some cut Portal 2 sound files that are put to great use here.

You’ll have to play it on a local server, as some of the physics in the puzzles may bug on a dedicated server, especially if you’ve got lag. Play it with a whole bunch of friends for added effect. You can find it over at the official L4D site, or at the official Suicide Blitz site.

Have you tried it out? Let us know in the comments section!
