Black Mesa Nominated for the 2015 Indie of the Year Awards

News & Rumors Half-Life

Black Mesa, the fan-recreation of Half-Life in the Source engine—now independent Steam title, has been nominated for the 2015 Indie of the Year Awards in the First Person Shooter category, hosted by Indie DB.

Black Mesa Nominated for the 2015 Indie of the Year Awards

The long-awaited game, previously known as ‘Black Mesa: Source’, was released as a free Source mod in 2012 and after a lot of anticipation, it was made available on Steam earlier this year as commercial title.

The game still lacks the final chapters of the original Half-Life set in Xen, apparently due to technical limitations, however the devs have confirmed on several occasions that it is being developed for a future update.

The retail release of Black Mesa also came with multiplayer deathmatch, which further mimicked the dm maps and style of the original Half-Life multiplayer experience.

Last month they also announced that they are working on a new update for December, which will include improvements to the multiplayer gameplay, such as a playable G-Man model and new Gluon Gun model.

Voting ends in 7 days.

There’s also a few other Source titles nominated, such as Insurgency in the Tactical Shooter category, so make sure to check out the full list of nominees.

  1. I have to say I did not enjoy Black Mesa. Of course, the atmosphere is very good: musics are awesome and the remake of the original Half Life intro was so moving for me. But, apart from atmosphere, Half-Life is gameplay, and this is what Black Mesa lacks desperately. The main problem is with the soldiers: often, when they fire, they make so much smoke we can’t possibly aim them (although they can still shoot us). This buh combined with the fact our vision shakes when we’re hit made me quit the game.
