Half-Life: Minecraft – Amazing Minecraft Project

Half-Life Half-Life: Minecraft – Amazing Minecraft Project

Ah, Minecraft. The hit indie game (that just went into beta on the 20th) that has taken our imagination and put it to good use, whether it’s hollowing out entire mountains with TNT… or building 16-bit ALU calculators. But, when you give people a game in which they can create anything, they’re probably going to recreate other games in it.

As you may have expected, Half-Life is one of those games. From simple recreations of the HL2 logo to building the G-Man, to Portal in Minecraftto actually constructing City 17, we’ve seen some pretty impressive stuff. But none as impressive as what we’re showing you next:

Community Spotlight: SteamDB

Steam Community Spotlight: SteamDB

For this week’s Community Spotlight we wanted to feature a project known as “Steam Database” or “SteamDB” for short.

Essentially, SteamDB is an online tool which catalogues information about games and applications on the Steam Store. It acts as a one-stop shop for pretty much everything and anything that you need to know about every single release on Steam, from technical data such as “AppIDs” and “depot configurations” to sales information such as DLC listings and worldwide pricing, it even gathers live player statistics.

Portal New “Portal Done Pro-er” Speedrun Smashes Previous Portal 1 World Record

A year and a half ago, in late 2010, Michael “DemonStrate” Yanni created a jaw-dropping 9-minute speedrun of the original Portal, titled “Portal Done Pro. It was the new world-record time for the fastest playthrough of Portal 1, and understandably, it was widely publicized at the time.

But you know what they say: records are made to be broken. And yesterday, PDP’s world record was not only broken, but smashed wide open. Read on!

Half-Life 2: Episode Two – Done Quick: A New Speedrun from the SourceRuns Team

Half-Life

A while back the SourceRuns team had done a segmented speedrun of Half-Life 2 known as Half-Life 2 Done With a High Magnitude of Velocity (DWaHMoV). Since then they’ve done runs of Portal, Portal 2 and some mods, but now they have come out with their next big segmented run: Half-Life 2: Episode Two – Done Quick or EP2DQ for short. Check it out in it’s full glory after the jump.

Rare Russian/Ukrainian HL2 Leak Bubblegum

Half-Life Rare Russian/Ukrainian HL2 Leak Bubblegum

The 2003 Half-Life 2 leak caused ripples in not only the community, but the world as a whole. It shaped our community into what it is today, yadda yadda, and more importantly, it allowed the creation of the world’s first Half-Life bubblegum.

Using content and screenshots from the leak itself on its packaging, this Russian/Ukrainian bubblegum seems to have been created sometime in early-mid 2004. Check out a community-made video showing its ground-breaking opening, after the jump.
